Double National
I like the idea of this on the July 4th weekend. Not too early, not too late. In fact, as our schedule is front loaded already, perhaps this timing would help folks who got a late start or broke early and had to make repairs to their car.
As a driver, I realize that one of the largest expenses I have (assuming I don't wrinkle the car) is schlepping the rig to and from an event. Double the points with one tow and one hotel bill intrigues me to no end. I think if we attack this as we did the drivers school (a coordinated effort among all racing regions) then it could be successful. Perhaps it could even rotate between tracks. However, as usual, the devil is in the details.
Spitball ideas here and we may have the genesis of a discussion for 2008. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Double National
The idea of rotating the Double National was proposed at the scheduling meeting by a member of the Neohio Trustees.
Double National
If the schedule is front end loaded why would you want a double at the begining of July?? With hardly a national after it in July,August or September???That is 3 months with how many Nationals leading up to the Runoffs in the middle of October.I do not know of a racing driver in the world that would want that big of a strech without a race leading up to the biggest race of the year.I see Cen-Div Has a very front end loaded schedule as well!!I say have it Labor day weekend closer to the runoffs.

A Labor Day event would be
A Labor Day event would be too many points too late in the season. Yes a guy could catch up, but the reverse is also possible. Say your 6th or so in your class. Would you want to HAVE to go to a Labor Day event just so you could defend your position? You've worked hard and scored points well all season. You should be done but noooooo. You gotta schlep to wherever and risk getting hit, a blown mill or some other misfortune? No thanks. Don't penalize me for having things go smoothly during the course of the year.

how does the schedule run
how does the schedule run with a double national weekend? any links to previous weekend schedules you could point me to?
forgive me but i have been strictly regional up til now. i thought the GCR mandated longer races for nationals and that contributed to the single race format.
are the combined practice/qualifying sessions shortened that much?
or are these three day weekends with practice/qualifying on friday?
i am interested in doubles for the sake of reducing the time and costs to qualify for the runoffs. is there a significant cost difference in entry fees between a single and double weekend?

Pocono Double National
A group known as Tri-Region Race Group, consisting of Philadelphia, South Jersey, and N.E. Pennsylvania Regions routinely conducts a Double National on the road course at Pocono each year. You can look at the entry form for this year's event here: http://www.triregionracing.org/Forms/06-national.pdf. NEDiv typically does two qualfying sessions and no practice sessions for their Nationals, so you will see qualifying starts on Friday with more qualifying and some races on Saturday followed by more qualifying and the rest of the races on Sunday.
The GCR requires that the total of practice and qualifying for each race group at a National be 45 minutes split over two sessions and the races have to be at least 45 miles.
Bob...
thanks for the link! that
thanks for the link! that is exactly the kind of info i was looking for. price was more or less in line with what i would have expected. that coupled with a single tow would be very attractive.
just hoping that a limited prep ITB/GP car doesn't break.
Double Nat.
The NorthEast Div. has ran a double Nat. at Pocono for years and a Texas double NAT. early in the winter,A Labor Day weekend Sat,Sunday & Monday I would think would be a big draw?? A double nat. that late in the season you should attract more cars fron other div. as well.

Double Nat.
The Double National that was proposed for the Memorial Day weekend was to be under two separate Divisions events, Great Lakes and NEDiv. by Neohio and Mahoning Valley Regions. This would have given points in Division and out of Division for the racers that ran both races.
Looking ahead to the 2008 season, Mahoning Valley will probably be having our National Race over Memorial Day weekend at Nelson Ledges so the option is still available to have a Double National. The 2008 Fourth of July holiday falls on a Friday and this would be a good opportunity to have an in Division Double National at Mid-Ohio or other track.
The Board of Directors of the SCCA would have to approve of a Division having more than one Double National per year but if the local Directors are behind it then it should pass.
Have a safe and successful race season.
Poll closed
This poll has been open for two weeks and is now closed. The topic is still open for comments, though you have to be registered user of the web site to post comments.
Thank you to everyone who voted in this poll. I'll be the first to admit that this poll is totally unscientific. The polling feature is designed to reduce "stuffing the ballot box", though that's still possible.
I also want to make clear that this poll was not conducted at the direction of GLDiv officials. I thought it would be interesting to see what people thought about the topic and I wanted to try out the polling feature of the software we are using to build the web site.
On the other hand, I hope the division sees the value of soliciting input from the membership through this type of polling. While you, individually, may not agree with the outcome, I think this poll provides an indication of how people feel about the question.
